NO3- + hv --> NO2- + O 2. NO3- + H(+) + hv --> NO2 + OH in dilute, air-saturated solutions of sodium nitrate were determined. The quantum yields found were Phi(O) = (1.1 ± 0.1) x 10-3 and Phi(OH) = (9.2 ± 0.4) x 10-3. The decadic absorption coefficient for NO3- at 305 nm is about 7 cm-1 M-1.
